Manager as a Coach

Performance & Leadership

Career Innovations provide tailored interventions to accelerate talent development using a range of Evidence Based coaching frameworks.

Many leadership models including the Bass Transformational, the Situational Leadership Model and the various Emotional Intelligence models all refer to employee coaching as the base standard to achieve success.

The bottom line returns (ROI) when introducing coaching into the workplace have also been documented through the Manchester study showing returns of between 500% and 700%.

A vital component to the success of coaching is the competence and relationship skills of the coach as shown by many studies including the work done by G. McGonagill (2002), which position the coach as a reflective practitioner.

All of our executive coaches are educated to Degree level and many are currently completing or have completed the Masters of Organisational Coaching at the University of Sydney. Career Innovations retains a close student and mentor relationship with the University providing us with invaluable new papers and research updates.

In addition, our coaches all have significant commercial experience in a variety of industries including Healthcare, Consumer, Banking & Finance and IT&T.

Our coaches use a variety of validated assessments including MBTI, DISC and the Lominger Leadership Architect.

Executive Coaching

Coaching has proven to be an effective tool in talent development and performance. Studies show that the majority of Fortune 100 companies routinely use executive coaches to work with their senior staff.

With the heavy demands routinely placed on executives, coaching can ensure that the individual meets their obligations and targets. Evidence of scenarios that coaching can be beneficial include:

  • Newly promoted executives that are assimilating to the role. Studies suggest that it takes up to nine months for new appointees to become ‘profitable’. Given the cost of attracting and hiring some executives, this delay can be expensive.
  • Due to a lack of choice, organisations often promote individuals to a first line management position with no previous people management experience. Coaching can help the manager develop the soft skills to effectively manage their new team.
  • Managing change is one of the most important skills for modern day managers. Are they equipped properly? The evidence is that they are not. Modern leaders have to be able to change themselves quickly before leading change effectively.

We offer three one-on-one coaching programs as follows:

STEP UP TO MANAGEMENT PROGRAM
A three-month program typically used for first time managers, targeted at improvements in skill and performance. Due to the short nature of the program, this is not recommended for experienced managers or executives.

Each session is 90 minutes with "homework" for the coachee between sessions. The coachee is supported by telephone and email between sessions.

EXECUTIVE PROGRAM
A six-month program designed for middle to senior managers, used for performance and developmental coaching assignments.

Each session is between 90 and 120 minutes with "homework" for the coachee between sessions. The coachee is supported by telephone and email between sessions.

LEADERSHIP PROGRAM
A twelve- month program designed for senior managers and senior executives, used for developmental and transformational coaching assignments.

Each session is between 90 and 120 minutes with "homework" for the coachee between sessions. The coachee is supported by telephone and email between sessions.

Leadership Development

Leadership is one of the most used words in business today. In fact if you look up all the books with leadership in the title at amazon.com your will find 70,000 matches. The downsizing and corporate rationalisation of the last two decades have led to a lack of leadership development for modern managers. Career Innovations tailors leadership programs for your Executive and Management teams.

Starting with the concept that true leaders lead from within, we customise our programs to suit your team. All programs have the primary aim of being results driven and provide accelerated learning.
